Description

The Omori Kuratau Pest Management Group is a group of 15 permanent residents who undertake predator control in the bush areas of Omori and Kuratau on the south western shores of Lake Taupo.

We have established 7 traplines with a total of 130 DOC 200 traps and rat cafes and have recently added 30 A12 Goodnature gas fired possum traps (and a planned 30 more A12s will be added soon). We target rats, stoats, ferrets, feral cats, hedgehogs, and possums and our volunteers clear and service the traps on a weekly basis. Our area starts at the Kuratau river walk and extends to the Omori stream. Our area borders on and supports the Pukawa Wild Life Trust pest management programme that has operated for over 10 year to the south of our area. OKPMG is registered as a Charitable Entity.

In the 2 years we have been in operation we have killed 450 rats, 50 feral cats, 105 hedgehogs, 26 stoats/weasels and 53 possums in our first month of targeting possums.
